Bob Burdenski 🍎

Bob Burdenski is an internationally-recognized annual and regular giving programs consultant for schools, colleges, and universities. He is a prolific writer and published author, often appearing in CURRENTS Magazine, the member magazine of the Council for the Advancement and the Support of Education (CASE). Bob is the author of three CASE books: Innovations in Annual Giving: Ten Departures That Worked, which presents ten U.S. case histories of advanced annual giving strategies; More Innovations in Annual Giving, Ten Global Departures That Worked, which features case histories from institutions around the world; and CASE’s first digital book, Online Innovations in Annual and Regular Giving, Ten Dozen Departures That Worked. In 2013, Innovations in Annual Giving was published by Fudan University in Shanghai, becoming the first CASE book translated into Chinese. Bob was named a CASE Laureate in 2029 and is a recipient of the CASE Crystal Apple Award for Lifetime Teaching Excellence as ranked by his audiences. He has educated (and entertained) at presentations throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, including numerous CASE Europe Annual and Regular Giving Conferences and Masterclasses. He presented CASE’s first-ever annual giving training programs in India, Japan, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Australia. In 2019, Bob was named a CASE Laureate for his volunteer service to the profession. Since 2002, Bob has served as the moderator of FundList, the fundraising e-mail discussion listserv with nearly 4,000 development professional subscribers.

Jasmine Amaniampong 🍏
Jasmine Amaniampong is the Development Assistant on the Annual Giving team at UNC Charlotte. Through this role, Jasmine leads various micro campaigns, including Senior Class Gift and Crowdfunding, while coordinating student involvement in key campus philanthropy and fundraising campaigns. She is a recent alumna of North Carolina A&T State University with her Bachelor of Science in Economics. Jasmine has a strong passion for community engagement, philanthropy, non-profits, and higher education. Her degree, passions, and involvement at A&T, including serving as Student Government Association President and member on the Board of Trustees, led her to her newfound career and role within University Advancement.

James Barnard 🍎
James Barnard serves as managing vice president with the Engagement and Donor Experience Division at BWF, leading annual giving and digital fundraising initiatives. In this role, he helps organizations build community and maximize their fundraising potential by optimizing their digital strategy and philanthropic marketing. James has spent over 15 years in philanthropy, and before joining BWF he led the annual giving and fundraising marketing teams for the University of Cincinnati Foundation, serving the university and its academic health system, UC Health. Leading the program at a critical time, he increased fundraising by launching several digital-first initiatives such as a digital engagement center, two giving days, and journey-based appeals. James also launched new brand identities for alumni engagement and the annual fund, and implemented an integrated marketing strategy to support the objectives of the UC Foundation and Alumni Association. Prior to the UC Foundation, James served as director of advancement communications at the University of Louisville and as a member of the annual giving team at Centre College. James has been active in the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) as a board member for District III and a conference speaker. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Lancaster University and his master’s degree from the University of Louisville.

Amber Countis 🍏
Since 2022, Amber Countis has served as the Vice President of Advancement and External Relations at what is now Texas A&M University-Victoria, the 12th campus and newest member of The Texas A&M University System. In this role, she leads fundraising, alumni engagement, marketing, and communications efforts. Most recently she served as the Associate Vice President of Philanthropy and Engagement for East Texas A&M University. She has over 26 years of experience in a variety of fundraising roles. She has worked in higher education at institutions in Louisiana, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Texas. Originally from northwest Louisiana, she received a bachelor’s in political science and environmental studies from Tulane University, a master’s in public policy, and a certificate for the management of community organizations from Tufts University, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education from East Texas A&M University. Amber is a board member of the Victoria Rotary Club, The Texas Zoo, Victoria Bach Festival, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Texas Coastal Bend Chapter. She was a member of the CASE DIV Conference Planning Committee. Amber is married to Andrew Countis, a faculty member at Coastal Bend College in Beeville, Texas and they are the proud parents to a dog, Abbey, and two cats, Elwood and Lucy.

Letitia Evans 🍏
Letitia Evans is the Director of Annual Giving at Elizabeth City State University, with extensive experience in fundraising and an affinity for technology. She previously served as an Interim Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Interim Director of Alumni Relations, and Development Officer at the same university. Letitia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications- Media Production from the University of Dayton, Ohio. She began her career as a Regional Development Officer at her alma mater and has since worked with the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast and the Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation. She is a CFRE Candidate and finds philanthropy highly rewarding. Currently, Letitia is pursuing her Master of Arts in Philanthropy and Development at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota. Beyond her professional role, Letitia chairs the ECSU Staff Senate, is a board member of NC Habitat for Humanity in Elizabeth City, and is a member-at-large in the Association of Fundraising Professionals. In her free time, Letitia enjoys taking in a great action movie and spending time with family and friends.

Kanisha Fowler 🍏
Kanisha Fowler is Director of Annual Giving at Gardner-Webb University. Kanisha began her career in 2019 as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving and has superseded fundraising goals leading to her current position. Over 5 years, Kanisha has implemented unique strategies within the department targeting donor retention, student engaged fundraising, mailers, and annual day of giving. Three years ago, she developed and launched the University’s first-ever loyalty society, which stewards consecutive donors, and has seen annual growth, thanks to the overall success of her team. The Annual Giving shop has become robust and progressing due to the support of donors and alumni engagement. It is Kanisha’s priority to create and maintain a culture of philanthropy for current and future students to have access to a campus she once called home. Gardner-Webb University has been a huge part of Kanisha’s journey. As a 2015 graduate, Kanisha can confirm that she is “caught in the Webb” and works to empower current students to thrive, academically and personally.

Gloria Goosby 🍎

Gloria Goosby is a veteran in annual giving and constituent engagement with 20 years of experience. She began her career at her alma mater, Georgia Southern University, serving in various roles, including director of annual giving. She later served as the director of annual giving at Furman University, where she managed a team responsible for driving alumni participation and raising crucial operating funds. Throughout her career in higher education fundraising, she has gained valuable expertise in key areas such as staff management, community and employee giving campaigns, giving days, affinity-based fundraising, board management and development, while also developing strategies for student, young alumni, and donor engagement. In her current role as the Senior Manager of Leadership Annual Giving at the Obama Foundation, Gloria develops and implements strategies to engage a vital community of donors who give between $1,000 and $99,999 annually. Her work is focused on standardizing business practices for the mid-level program, cultivating these supporters, and using data to identify those with the potential for a transformative impact. She also works closely with the donor relations, prospect research, and data teams on portfolio development to guide and advise donors on a path to greater giving.
Outside of work, Gloria enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her husband and young son in Greenville, SC.

Robin Gordon 🍎
Robin Gordon was named Assistant Athletics Director of Development at Campbell University in July 2024. Gordon joined the Fighting Camels athletics department after having served as the University’s Director of Annual Giving since May of 2022. In her new position, Gordon manages the Fighting Camel Club Annual Fund and assist the advancement program in fundraising efforts for the athletic department. In her role with the university, Gordon led the university team responsible for producing the 2022 Campbell Giving Day fundraising video that would go on to be awarded the highest honor at the CASE Circle of Excellence Awards. The video highlighted the different areas on campus gifts support and touched on the multiple ways donors could give. 583 institutions across 22 countries entered the CASE awards in 2022, with Campbell’s video receiving “grand gold” honors. Gordon’s work and leadership proved effective, as the 2022 Giving Day set single-day records with 2,262 gifts and commitments totaling more than $2 million.

Cameron J. Hall, CFRE 🍎

Cameron is an accomplished executive with progressive experience defining and driving strategies to inform donor acquisition and retention. He excels in building better programs from the ground up by using data analytics to improve strategies, processes, and procedures. He is adept at cultivating partnerships and building lasting relationships across departments, ensuring the optimal conditions in which to empower staff, enhance outcomes, and support ongoing growth. Cameron currently serves as Executive Director of Annual Giving and Lead Generation at the University of South Carolina, overseeing Annual Giving Programs and Services, Digital Annual Giving Programs and Strategies, and Donor Experience. He provides senior-level leadership and strategy to the annual giving department and is defining and building the lead generation program in preparation for a system-wide capital campaign. He also serves as a senior leadership team member for the Division of Development. He previously served as Senior Director of Annual Giving at the Texas Tech University System, where he increased revenue from annual gifts by more than $1 million (USD), developed a digital marketing program, and developed an email marketing strategy that surpassed direct mail marketing in revenue by more than $120 thousand. He also led the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve annual giving, prospect research, and planned giving. Before his role at TTUS, he served as the Director of Annual Giving at Augustana College, where he was instrumental in reversing a five-year trend of declining alumni donor participation; increasing first-time donor acquisition; implementing policies, collaborative practices, and reports to increase major giving, donor engagement, and alumni engagement; and developing and managing donor societies aimed at increasing multi-year donor retention.

Sharon Horinka is the Associate Director of Annual Giving at UNC Charlotte, where she turns big ideas into big results. With 17+ years in fundraising (and a record as the university’s top student fundraiser of all time), she’s led everything from the Student Philanthropy Center and Donor Experience Team to a high-powered texting strategy that keeps donors engaged and inspired. A proud 49er alumna, Sharon now focuses on giving days, and building the pipeline from annual gifts to planned giving – all while keeping philanthropy fun. She bleeds green and gold and believes the best donor relationships start with genuine connection…and maybe a GIF or two!

Shayna Long 🍎

Shayna Long is the Executive Director of Strategic Engagement & Annual Giving, which is a fancy way of saying she helps teams work better together to raise money. She spends her time aligning engagement and outreach efforts with fellow advancement teams and creating better tracking and reporting to build a strong pipeline of donors. She’s a self-professed data nerd who believes every good fundraising strategy starts with a spreadsheet. Off the clock, she’s a professional kid-wrangler for her girl gang three daughters, and a former food and history tour guide in Savannah, Georgia, where she perfected the art of walking backward while talking about fried green tomatoes.

Amy Marks 🍏
Amy Marks is Director of Membership and Development Services at Space Center Houston. She began her development career at the University of New Mexico (UNM) as a student telefund caller, eventually garnering a full-time employment offer at the UNM Foundation upon graduation. An unexpected event left Amy the alumni and donor database administrator and sole report writer. But her heart has always belonged to direct mail. Amy left Albuquerque to lead the Annual Giving department at the University of Houston in 2008. Her service there included establishment of the first student and young alumni fundraising role in addition to the ideation and execution of the Cougar Spirit Cord program, which lives on today. Before long, Amy was leading Advancement Services and overseeing the database of record supporting the UH System, including prospect research, gift administration, reporting and the multi-campus integration of iModules. In 2017, Amy became Space Center Houston’s first membership-dedicated crew member, overseeing implementation of the center’s reinvented program. Center-wide engagement and a fledgling mail program led to revenue growth over 200% ($2.5M) and more than 25% annual growth in member households (18,690), until the COVID-19 pandemic struck. With more than 30 years now in annual fund, membership, development systems and reporting, Amy oversees a growing team of eight at Space Center Houston and continues to optimize her passion for data-driven, integrated multi-channel direct response marketing. She has been active in and a presenter for the Association of Advancement Services Professionals, the American Museum Membership Conference, the Association of Science and Technology Centers and the Texas Association of Museums. Amy is also mother of two STEM-enthusiastic young adults and loves to spend time outdoors with her significant other and their playful dogs.

Karras Mayes 🍏
Karras Mayes is the Associate Director of Annual Giving at the University of Houston, where she leads fundraising strategy and donor engagement through multichannel appeals and flash campaigns like GivingTuesday and Giving Day. Her leadership strengthens donor pipelines and advances the future of philanthropy in higher education. With nearly a decade of experience in higher education, Karras began her career at Prairie View A&M University, where she launched innovative alumni engagement initiatives and cultivated donor support through reunions and volunteer programs. At PVAMU, she introduced creative programs such as the Coaches Caravan, the 25th Reunion Silver Letterman, the #ThrowbackontheHill social media campaign and the PV Chopped cooking challenge, all designed to build connection and increase alumni participation. Passionate about community impact, Karras volunteers with the Cactus Jack Foundation and the Jarred Vanderbilt Foundation, supporting youth development, food security and scholarships for HBCU students. She is a nationally recognized speaker who shares expertise in digital engagement, donor retention and strategic giving campaigns. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University. As a proud HBCU graduate, she remains committed to uplifting these institutions and expanding opportunities for their students.

Felicity Meu 🍎
Felicity spent 9 years with Stanford’s Office of Development. As Stanford’s inaugural Director of Next Generation Giving she worked closely with individual donors and volunteers but also helped craft the University’s vision for engaging its next great generation of philanthropists. Leaning into the needs of young donors, Felicity spent time consulting for Stanford’s Effective Philanthropy Lab, working on a project dedicated to taking a deep dive into better understanding the needs of millennial donors. Currently she serves as Director of Partner Success for GiveCampus where she continues to work against her goal of helping more people be more generous more strategically.

Sara Pond 🍎
Sara Pond is Vice President, Client Development at MCR, Inc. She is a philanthropic leader with a 20-year career serving educational and non-profit sectors with special focus on pipeline development. Her experience details leading teams, targeted marketing and communications, technical strategy, artful storytelling, and qualitative analysis to build the donor pipeline and raise revenue. She is passionate about helping organizations provide economic mobility, access to educational pathways and healthcare.

Nikki Rader 🍏
Nikki Rader is Director of Donor Engagement and Advancement Communications at John Brown University, bringing over 18 years of experience in higher education across fundraising, advancement communications, donor relations, program leadership, and teaching. She currently leads strategic initiatives in AI for Advancement, Advancement Communications, and Donor Engagement. She plays a critical role in refining metrics to enhance strategic donor involvement, cultivating and soliciting major gifts, and supporting the university’s capital campaign. Her leadership includes managing donor relationships, overseeing advancement communications and staff, and executing high-impact outreach strategies that strengthen donor trust and institutional impact. As a presenter on the intersection of ethics and fundraising, Nikki is passionate about donor intent, transparency, and ethical storytelling. She explores how emerging technologies—particularly AI—can be leveraged responsibly in advancement while maintaining integrity in data use, donor recognition, and communication practices. Anessa Rios-Ezeude, MBA, CFRE 🍏
Anessa Rios-Ezeude, CFRE, is a strategic and purpose-driven fundraising and marketing leader currently serving as Executive Director of Engagement Communications and Annual Giving at the University of Houston. With over a decade of experience leading multichannel campaigns, she inspires students, young alumni, supporters and the broader Cougar community to turn their pride into purpose through philanthropy and connection. Every role Anessa takes on is rooted in heart. She leads with intention because the work is personal. UH gave her the education that launched her career, and Houston Public Media shaped her childhood through programming that defined her values. She wakes up grateful to do what she loves: tell meaningful stories, build strong teams and create opportunities for people to make an impact. What began as a focused effort in Annual Giving has grown into a division-wide leadership role spanning all Advancement and Alumni communications, uniting messaging, digital engagement and donor strategy under one campaign-aligned vision. Anessa has championed UH’s shift toward a “one-voice” communications model, ensuring every touchpoint strengthens the donor experience and reinforces the university’s mission. Since stepping into her Annual Giving role, she has helped lead a cultural transformation, modernizing creative strategy, launching engagement systems and deepening donor relationships. That impact is already evident in stronger storytelling, improved retention, increased revenue and more connected campaigns that reflect the spirit and momentum of the UH community. Anessa is equally passionate about developing people. She’s committed to building a team of leaders, experts in their space, who are empowered to innovate, collaborate and drive meaningful results with confidence. A frequent national speaker on inclusive fundraising, next-gen engagement and campaign integration, Anessa previously held a leadership role at Houston Public Media, where she became the youngest female and Hispanic director in the station’s history. Her multimedia campaigns achieved record-breaking digital fundraising results and set new standards for donor-centered strategy. She holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Houston and an MBA in Management of Technology from UH-Clear Lake. Houston is her home, and Anessa is proud to serve the institution that shaped her.

Catherine Ross 🍏
Catherine Ross is a fundraising analytics consultant with Blackbaud’s donorCentrics team, where she presents trend analysis and helps nonprofits uncover areas of opportunity. She is a seasoned fundraising strategist with a background in data driven growth, individual giving and donor engagement. Prior to Blackbaud, Catherine led annual giving at Villanova Law, where she honed her expertise in direct marketing and strategic advancement.

Paige Rowlett 🍏
Paige Rowlett is a development and fundraising professional dedicated to strengthening communities through philanthropy. After a six-year career in private education and guided by a lifelong interest in science and medicine, she joined St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundations in 2023 as Director of Annual Giving. Paige is passionate about connecting donors to meaningful projects to inspire generosity, build authentic partnerships, and create lasting impact. A proud “double dawg,” Paige completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Georgia, culminating in a Master of Arts degree in Nonprofit Management and Leadership.

Gail Siegel 🍏
Gail Siegel is Senior Consultant with C. I. Partners. Gail brings almost 30 years of fundraising experience to her clients, which include UCLA Health, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She joined C.I. Partners in 2021, where she supports organizations in a variety of verticals. Previously, Gail led direct response efforts at the top-ranked Texas Children’s Hospital, driving changes that resulted in a 10-year high in direct mail channel revenue, an improved donor profile, and increased channel integration. She also guided programs focused on high-end direct mail giving and stewardship, grateful patient education and outreach, and membership. Earlier in her career, Gail held key roles for donor development programs at Houston Methodist, UT Health in Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, and the American Cancer Society’s Houston office. She has in-depth expertise in prospect research and management, major gift proposals and collateral, and stewardship reports and communications.

Sarah Sims, CFRE 🍏
Sarah Sims brings over 20 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, communications, and higher education leadership to her role as Associate Vice President of Donor Engagement at Texas State University. Known as a “builder”, Sarah has developed and implemented comprehensive donor engagement, recognition, and communication programs from the ground up across higher education and nonprofit sectors. Her strategic, metrics-driven approach has successfully raised significant philanthropic funds, improved donor retention, and enhanced stewardship for thousands of donors. In addition to her role at Texas State, Sarah leads Sarah Sims Consulting, offering tailored strategies for donor engagement and fundraising programs. She holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) accreditation, actively volunteers with CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education), and is a frequent speaker and consultant in the industry.

Astria Smith 🍏
Astria Smith is Vice President for Annual Giving and Alumni Relations at Southern Methodist University. She provides strategic leadership and direction for efforts that engage, solicit and steward SMU alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends. Her role allows her to integrate several areas of passion and expertise, including front-line fundraising, annual giving stewardship, multi-channel direct marketing, volunteer management and alumni engagement.

Miriam Smith 🍏
Miriam A. Smith serves as Vice Chancellor of College Advancement & Executive Director of the Austin Community College (ACC) Foundation. Smith is responsible for leading fundraising and donor engagement efforts, focusing on growing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders to significantly increase philanthropic support for the institution and its vision. A strategic, fundraising leader, Smith brings nearly 20 years of extensive development and alumni relations experience, having worked at some of the most highly regarded institutions and organizations in the country, including the Fashion Institute of Technology, Manhattanville College, Columbia Artists Management, and Sarah Lawrence College. Prior to joining ACC, Smith served as Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations at Columbia College Chicago where she successfully managed the college’s philanthropic and engagement efforts, working closely with students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and donors to increase critical support and strengthen affinity to the college. Smith served as the Director of Corporate Relations for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, working with corporations to align their philanthropic interests with the organization’s funding priorities. She also served as Manager of Donor Relations at the Grady Health Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia where she was responsible for cultivating major donor prospects and corporate partners. Smith holds a Master of Music in Opera degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton in Binghamton, New York and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York.

Matt Sulzer 🍎
Matt Sulzer is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for MCR, Inc. For the past 20 years, Matt has served more than 600 college, university and healthcare teams with their direct mail needs. He prides himself on providing clients with excellent customer service, while partnering with them to help achieve and exceed their organizational fundraising goals. In Matt’s tenure, he has achieved Sales Person of the Year eight times and regularly speaks at conferences on different annual giving and direct mail topics.

Cynthia Uviedo serves as the Director of Annual Giving Programs at Trinity University where she manages Trinity’s Reunion Giving program and oversees the University’s Phonathon and Young Alumni and Student Giving programs. She started Trinity’s donor relations program in 2008. Cynthia has more than 20 years of fundraising experience. She has a bachelors in communication from Trinity University and a masters of public administration from the George Washington University.

Bethany Wallace 🍏
Bethany Wallace is an Advancement Communications Specialist at John Brown University and is passionate about helping organizations tell their stories clearly and creatively. With experience across higher education, healthcare, and the arts, she enjoys translating big ideas into meaningful messages that connect with audiences. Bethany currently lives in Northwest Arkansas with her family of 5 and her 2 cats.

James Wasilewski 🍏
James has served in various fundraising, constituent engagement and student recruitment roles in higher education for 20 years – currently the Executive Director of Leadership Annual Giving within VCU’s Development and Alumni Relations leading focused fundraising efforts and also engaging in leadership and fundraising training initiatives. During his tenure at VCU, he has also served in roles with the Massey Cancer Center and in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. He is and has been a community advocate, volunteer and leader for organizations including Virginia Association of Fund Raising Executive Board (VAFRE), Association of Fundraising Professionals – Central Virginia Chapter, the Children’s Museum Associate Board, Council for Advancement and Support of Education, (CASE) District III Cabinet and Yes, Balloon (ComedySportz RVA). In the past, he was recognized in the Richmond publication Style Weekly’s Top 40 Under 40 for his work in fundraising, volunteer service and improv comedy in the community. James is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and a Certified Applied Improvisation – Senior Practitioner (CAI-SP) with ComedySportz WorldWide. He is an active member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD) and the Applied Improv Network (AIN). He also earned his BS in Accounting with a minor in Speech Communications from Randolph-Macon College and his MBA from the University of Central Florida. He is currently pursuing a certificate in the Foundations of Instructional Design.

Harold Williams 🍎

Harold Williams began his career in higher education as an Admissions Counselor for his alma mater Old Dominion University 10 years ago. Since then, his career track includes alum relations and, most recently, as ODU’s Director of Annual Giving. As the Director of Annual Giving, he established digital giving and the current annual gift data collection while leading fundraising events and campaigns. In addition, his experiences have allowed him to lead the University’s strategic planning efforts as part of the brand and marketing committee and the University’s AP Faculty Senate Planning Committee. Outside of the University, he is an active volunteer of the ODU Alumni Association, leading the silent auction efforts of the United Negro College Fund’s Mayor’s Ball, volunteering with the local YMCA, and advising student organizations. Harold holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from ODU and is currently working on his Ph.D. at Hampton University.
